Save regularly and get a bonus with WEDCU this Autumn

What if money recovered from loan sharks could be put back into communities to help people build better financial habits?

That’s exactly what is happening this autumn.

Whitehaven, Egremont & District Credit Union is working in partnership with Stop Loan Sharks on a special savings incentive designed to encourage people to start saving regularly and build good money habits.

From 28 September to 7 November 2026, new WEDCU members could receive a bonus simply by opening an account and saving regularly for three consecutive months.

New adult members could receive a £25 bonus

If you’re a new adult member, you could receive a £25 bonus when you:

  • Open a new WEDCU account between 28 September and 7 November 2026
  • Save £10 a month
  • Make your savings payments for three consecutive months

The offer is limited, so if you’re thinking about joining, don’t leave it too late.

A £10 bonus for Junior Savers

We’re also encouraging families to start good savings habits early.

Open a Junior Saver account for your child between 28 September and 7 November 2026, and save £4 a month for three consecutive months, and your child could receive a £10 bonus.

Saving £4 a month might not seem like a lot, but regular saving can help children learn some really important lessons about money.

It can help them understand that:

  • Small amounts can add up over time
  • Saving can help you reach a goal
  • Putting money aside regularly can become a habit
  • Planning ahead can make unexpected costs easier to manage

Why not make saving a family habit and open an account for yourself as well?

Why is this offer happening?

This savings incentive is being delivered in partnership with Stop Loan Sharks.

The idea is simple: money recovered from criminal activity can be put back into communities and used to support positive financial habits.

Instead of encouraging people to turn to illegal lenders when money is tight, the campaign aims to help people build savings and know where they can access affordable, responsible financial support.

Why save with WEDCU?

WEDCU is a not-for-profit community organisation, run for members, by members.

We’re here to help people across Cumbria save regularly and access affordable credit when they need it.

You can start small and save in a way that suits you, including by cash or standing order.

WEDCU also offers low-cost loans for everyday needs, including school costs, holidays, Christmas, household expenses and car repairs. Loans are assessed based on your circumstances, with no credit checks, according to the offer information.

Eligible savings also come with free life insurance, subject to the terms and conditions.

Who can join WEDCU?

WEDCU is open to people who live or work in Cumbria.

Whether you’re looking to start saving for the first time, build an emergency fund, save towards something specific, or help your child develop good money habits, a credit union account can give you a simple way to put money aside regularly.

Don’t miss the offer

The offer runs from 28 September to 7 November 2026, but places are limited.

The bonus is available to the first 50 eligible new adult accounts and the first 50 eligible Junior Saver accounts opened during the offer period.
